Wine Critics Notes:

Allen Meadows - Score: 93 (2017 Apr.)

A restrained, cool and beautifully elegant array of spice and violet-infused dark pinot fruit precedes the vibrant and mineral-driven flavors where the supporting tannins are even finer. I very much like the delivery plus there is first-rate depth and length on the balanced finish. This is very Volnay in style and is a wine of class and grace.

Vinous - Score: 91 (2018 Jan.)

Good bright, full red. Very pure scents of cherry, dark raspberry, licorice, spicy oak and flowers, plus noteworthy mineral pungency for the year. Suave and showy in the mouth, with flavors of redcurrant, spices and flowers given punch by terrific saline minerality. The wine's density is leavened by excellent acidity. This premier cru is showing considerable early personality but has the stuffing to age gracefully. Finishes with firm but nicely buffered tannins and a brisk touch of pepper from vinification with a portion of the stems.
