Allen Meadows - Score: 97 (2016 June)

Like several of the better vintages from this era the '91 Riche is also beginning to lighten at the rim. This is a wine that I have had many times and most of them display quite a bit of secondary development to the highly expressive and gorgeously perfumed nose of spice, earth, stone and leather scents yet this latest example was completely primary. Otherwise there is outstanding mid-palate concentration as the dry extract really coats the palate and imparts a highly seductive mouth feel to the still powerful big-bodied flavors that display seriously good depth and simply stunning length on the driving finish. While I have had largely consistent notes over the years I should note that this is easily the best bottle of the '91 Méo Richebourg that I have ever had. I would further note that for my taste this is in the middle of its prime drinking window and should continue to hold at this level for many years to come. In brief, this is a real stunner of a wine. Multiple but not entirely consistent notes.
