A beautifully layered nose flashes a broad assortment of aromas that include apple, pear, acacia, lavender, spice and a discreet application of wood. The Chevalier is a big wine but this is bigger still with its imposingly scaled flavors that are both muscular and powerful yet even so there is a better sense of verve and particularly so on the lingering, sappy and well-balanced finale. This is clearly going to require at least some bottle age and amply reward a decade plus.
