Wine Critics Notes:

Allen Meadows - Score: 91 (2018 Jan.)

A ripe but airy nose combines notes of various dark berries with floral, spice and a hint of wood. There is both good freshness and ample punch to the refined and stony middle weight flavors that possess a really lovely texture thanks to the relatively fine-grained tannins shaping the highly refreshing, balanced and sneaky long finish. This is notably finer though it's nowhere near as dense but even so, this also offers terrific quality for a villages level wine.

Vinous - Score: 91 (2018 Jan.)

Good dark red. Very ripe on the nose but more restrained than the Coeur du Roy, offering aromas of black cherry and nutty oak. Much suaver in texture as well, offering a silky fullness as well as a firming touch of minerality to its cherry, spice and mocha flavors. Better-balanced than the Coeur du Roy and less aggressive on the back end. This wine displays the depth of the vintage as well as subtle mineral complexity.
