Wine Critics Notes:

Allen Meadows - Score: 92-94 (2017 Jan.)

A cool, restrained and more complex collection is comprised by notes of both red and dark currant, earth, violet, humus and plenty of sauvage characters. Here too there is ample minerality to the tautly muscular, serious and powerful big-bodied flavors that terminate in a beautifully persistent finish. This is very clearly built-to-age but it's a bit less youthfully austere than it usually is at this early juncture. Textbook LSJ.

Vinous - Score: 91-93 (2017 Jan.)

Palish medium red. Discreet aromas of red cherry liqueur, spices and caraway seed. Juicy and penetrating but much less pliant and showy today than the Cazetiers; less easy fruit and sweetness here. But this extremely backward wine impresses on the back end, where subtle red berry flavors are nicely carried by broad, dusty tannins.
