The 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages reveals abundant aromas of sweet black cherries and currants intermixed with undertones of earth, spice, and grilled herbs. Enjoy it over the next several years. One of Chateauneuf du Pape’s outstanding estates, Mas de Boislauzon is in the northern tier of the appellation, and has produced a brilliant succession of vintages over the last decade or more. As always, the differences in these vintages are broadly and dramatically expressed, with the 2007 gloriously fruity, juicy, pure, full-bodied and powerful as well as incredibly fresh. It represents a hypothetical blend of 1990 and 2001, with a dose of 1998 thrown in. 2006 is a vintage for those who love all the spices of the Southern Rhone as the wines tend to possess an earthy, spicy, peppery, garrigue-dominated profile. There is no shortage of fruit or body, but the presentation is completely different than in 2007.
