Wine Critics Notes:

Allen Meadows - Score: 91-94 (2016 Jan.)

Moderate but not really invasive wood serves as a backdrop for the mix of various dark berry fruit elements where additional breadth is present in the form of earth, spice and violet hints. There is good muscle and punch to the broad-shouldered and attractively textured flavors that conclude in a firm and mildly austere finish that delivers excellent persistence. This is clearly going to need time but should be approachable after only 6 to 8 years.

Vinous - Score: 90-92 (2016 Jan.)

(50% vendange entier; 70% new oak): Deep, bright red-ruby. Musky aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, licorice and dark chocolate are a bit inexpressive in the early going. The youthfully stunted palate is somewhat musclebound and dry today, with the wine's sweetness currently in the deep background. This powerfully tannic Clos-Vougeot is likely to need extended bottle aging.
