Wine Critics Notes:

Allen Meadows - Score: 91-94 (2013 Jan.)

An earthy, cool and brooding nose of dark berry fruit, cassis and a hint of the sauvage introduces dense and muscular flavors where the supporting tannins are unusually fine in the context of the appellation before concluding in a firm, focused, long, serious and moderately austere finish.

Vinous - Score: 90-93 (2013 Jan.)

(from Petit Maupertuis; aged in a single once-used barrel): Saturated deep ruby. Aromas and flavors of black cherry, fresh herbs, menthol, licorice and spicy oak. Concentrated and sweet; not yet particularly fleshy but not hard or forbidding either. Complicating notes of bloody steak and bitter chocolate. Intriguing Clos Vougeot but will need time to gain in complexity.
