Wine Critics Notes:

Allen Meadows - Score: 91 (2019 Jan.)

A cool, pure and airy nose combines notes of the essence of red currant with hints of earth, violet and a whisper of wood toast. There is very good size, weight and richness to the concentrated middle weight plus flavors though at the expense of a bit less refinement on the driving, sappy and mineral-driven finale where the supporting structure is firmer as well. This will require at least a decade to be at its best and very likely 12 to 15 years.

Vinous - Score: 91-93 (2018 Jan.)

(vinified with 50% whole clusters and aging in three tonneaux; Forey reported that there was a bit of frost at the bottom of this vineyard, "but not bad"): Good full red. Highly complex, scented nose combines black cherry, licorice, menthol and cocoa powder. Fairly silky on entry, then fine-grained but quite linear, even a bit severe, in the middle palate; in a distinctly masculine style. Finishes a bit youthfully astringent but perfumed and long, with noteworthy lift. This wine will be slow to develop in bottle.
