Wine Critics Notes:

Vinous - Score: 89 (2018 July)

The 1937 Latour came from two bottles from the same case, however they were clearly cut from different cloths. The first has a strong and inescapable curry leaf nose, specifically a Balti insofar that it combines Indian spice with earthenware. The second had a stronger marine influence and more freshness. Indeed, it is the second bottle that scored the home run: quite firm tannin here, Chinese tea mixed with vestiges of dark berry, seaweed and brine towards the surprisingly vital finish. I suspect there is a lot of bottle variation nowadays but this second bottle showed that the best examples have plenty to offer. Tasted at the International Business & Wine Latour dinner at Ten Trinity.
